The Hermione was a frigate of the American War of Independence. The book includes all the plans of the framework in 1/48. Brochure 140 pages and 34 plans.
In a dry dock of the former naval arsenal of Rochefort a replica of this historically interesting frigate was built since 1997.
Because the original construction plans had been burned for safety reasons, new ones had to be made. Plans from the British Marine Museum were used as a template, which had fallen into the hands of the Royal Navy, as well as the well-preserved remains of one of the sister ships.
Finally completed, the Hermione was launched in 2014. In early September 2014 she left her building dock for first sea trials off the French Atlantic coast.
An initial chapter of the book is concerned with the nautical qualities, that warships must have possessed. They were especially mediocre for vessels built during the 17th century and the first half of the 18th because of the use of obsolete concepts. The new design concepts that were adopted toward the end of that period are described next, as well as the improvements in performance and sea-going capabilities that resulted.
A second chapter is the object of a detailed study of documents concerned with the architecture and characteristics of sister-frigates, a study that allows the identification in a plausible manner, of the variouspoorlyknown aspects of HERMIONE. Thirty-four plates, most of them with comments, provide a detailed picture of the ship. Contents:
