Viermastbark KRUZENSHTERN ex PADUA. Eine deutsch-russische Dokumentation zur Technik- und Sozialgeschichte des Frachtseglers und Schulschiffs
The last German tall ship for merchant shipping, the four-masted barque PADUA, was built in 1926 at the Tecklenborg shipyard in Bremerhaven-Geestemünde for the shipping company F. Laeisz, Hamburg, as a "Flying P-liner" for the saltpetre trip to Chile. The PADUA drove under the German flag until the Second World War, and then went to the Soviet Union, which set up the highly seaworthy ship under the name KRUZENSHTERN as a training vessel for seafarers. It still managed a journey around the notorious Cape Horn in 2005 and is now part of the fishing fleet of the Baltic State Academy in Kaliningrad.
In celebration of the 90th anniversary of this ship, this is the first study about the history of technology and the history of training of this ship.
Many b/w pictures, b/w drawings, a facsimile of the building regulation from the shipping company F. Laeisz as well as one plansheet (bird-eye-view and sideview) in scale 1:100, drawn from Mr. Böttcher, complete the book.
