In the 1920s, catapults were introduced in Germany to launch mail aircraft from board. On warships ship planes were used as reconnaissance aircraft. They increased the field to be explored far beyond the field of vision, which had hitherto been reserved for the best eyes in the crow's nest. From 1935 to 1940 the Reichs- und Kriegsmarine used the biplane Heinkel He 60 for this task.
With 296 illustrations, 261 of them are b/w as well as 35 drawings.
