The island of Schouwen-Duiveland remained occupied until the surrender of Germany in 1945.
Vol. IIA and IIB describe the complete history of the airwar over this island with 68 crashes from all belligerents explained in great detail. Also the history of the militarized airfield Haamstede for the Dutch Air Force and after the surrender as a Fliegerhorst for the Luftwaffe.
All air operations are covered and special attention for the sinking of the Dutch minelayer Hr. Ms. Hydra, the many hit-and-run actions of the RAF and how it functioned as an airbase for JG 1 and JG 26 during operation Donnerkeil. The island also had the doubtful honour of being the very first on the target list of the USAAF, it realtes also f.i. the story of the American aircrew who were not allowed to be rescued and so on.The role of the island defences are also covered including their vital efforts during Market-Garden.
