This 448-page illustrated book "Winter Uniforms of the German Army - Army, Air Force, Waffen-SS" is the first thoroughly done reference work about the German fed winter uniforms of the period from 1942 to 1945. The book can be recommended for collectors, historians, modelers and military history interested readers.
After the attack on the Soviet Union and the first experiences with the "Russian winter" of 1941/42, the responsible persons soon realized, that the usual German winter uniforms at temperatures far below freezing were completely unsuitable for war. For this reason, new, tailored to the climatic conditions, uniforms had to be created. Based on the development of German camouflage uniforms, this book traces the development of the winter uniform 42, which was first designed by the clothing manufacturer Josef Neckermann, and its further development for the army, air force and Waffen SS in the course of the war. For the first time, the complete winter uniform - hood, jacket, trousers, mittens - are shown schematically in detail in all its parts. With more than 250 original photos, the vast majority of them never published, and more than 1100 color photos - full-length and detail photos - of contemporary original pieces in 15 different camouflage patterns, the development of the winter uniform during the Second World War is described in detail. This work is based on more than 30 years of research and collecting by the author.
Thanks to the willing cooperation of renowned private collectors and museums, this book presents a never-before-seen, unique wealth of original pieces, including some exceptionally rare ones. Finally, this volume deals with some uniforms that deviate from Neckermann's original design. The conclusion is formed by identification tapes and ranked badges specially developed for the winter uniform.
