The Puma was developed to meet the requirements of ALAT (Light Aviation of the French Army looking for a new tactical transport helicopter after the Algerian war). It was a great success in the military, in France and for export, but also in the civilian market.
PUMA has participated in most conflicts and crises worldwide in the past 40 years, from the Falkland Islands to the Sahel, the Balkans and Angola.
More than fifty years after his first flight and shortly before the end of his career, the little-known history of this helicopter with the most familiar silhouette is described here in detail for the first time.
