As a mixture of aircraft, land vehicle and ship, air cushion vehicles float contactlessly across all surfaces and are therefore versatile. The first suitable designs were developed in the 1950s for passenger operations and are still in use worldwide. The range ranges from small one-man devices to the almost 600-ton monsters of the Russian Pomornik class.
The special form of the ekranoplans (ground-effect vehicles) is also comprehensively illuminated: its largest representatives were giants with speeds of up to 500 km/h and powered by several jet engines.
All together 180 b/w and color pictures, some black drawings.
