As German casualties increased, the Wehrmacht equipped the infantry units with self-propelled "heavy anti-tank guns." In the further course of the war, the easy-to-manufacture assault guns increasingly moved into the role of "replacement tanks", although they did not have a turret. Nevertheless, they were still used after the war, even in the first Israeli-Arab Wars.
In this volume, the authors document the development, technology and use of these vehicles in all their variants, Alexander Lüdeke has worked through the post-war years.
