Skookum Tugs.

Skookum Tugs.
"Skookum" means "Sturdy & Strong". We see in excellent coloured 132 photographs the West Coast tugboat. Never has the towboat's central place in the coastal landscape been more forceful brought to light than in this masterful photographic study by Robb Douglas. The book explores the history of West Coast towboots from the days when the Hudson's Bay Company's ungainly sidewheeler S.S. BEAVER "thrashed about like a harpooned walrus" to the space-age tractor tugs of today that can turn on a dime, and have so much power they can cave in a ship's side ... and 2 b/w photographs show the old "Beaver".
