This comprehensive, excellent illustrated work was published for the first time in 1925. In those years the original author, commander of the Ortler-front, Freiherr von Lempruch was still alive. As the commander of this sector of the front, he is surely the most potent writer on this theme. It was not only one foe to fight against, as ice and snow were as dangerous as the Italien opponents. After a new introduction of about 75 pages the original work of 1925 beginns. The details in the descriptions are astonishing and the number of contemporary photographs and coloured maps give a good insight into the mountain war.
