Hitlers lightning-victory against the western Allies was not planned as a "lightning-war". The German leadership expected a long lasting war in WW 1 style and adjusted its military and economical plans to this expetation. Only the surprising break throug of the Panzerkorps Guderian around Sedan led to an unexpected self dynamic that led to the so called "Sichelschnitt", the tank-break throug to the Channel Coast, were the Allies were enclosed at Dünkirk. The author contradicts the well know "lightning-war-theory" and explains what was the real basis for German success in 1940.
