Kurt Meyer, the author, SS-Brigadeführer and Generalmajor of the Waffen-SS was born in 1910 in Lower Saxony. He joined the police in 1929 and shifted to the Leibstandarte in 1934. He was a leader of a Panzerjäger-Kompanie in the Polish campaign and of a Kradschützen-Kompanie at the beginning of the campaign in the West. In the Balkans commander of a Aufklärungs-Abteilung and late in the war the jungest commander of a German Field-Division, the 12. Panzerdivision 'Hitlerjugend'. Here in this book the tells his story.
