This is the story of Major Rudolf Witzig. Born in August 1916, he joined Pionierbataillon 16 in 1936. Following his participation in the Poland campaign, he was among the 55 parachooters, who took the Belgian fort Eben Emael defended by 1.200 soldiers and was therefore awarded the Knights Cross. Afer being wounded in the jump over Malta, he saw service in Tunesia and on the Eastern Front, where he was awarded the Oak Leaves. He ended the war in the West.
