The third volume of the documentary series about the German air war history 1914-1918: Fighter Squadron 23 (Kasta) of KG 4 of the General Headquarters (KagOHL) - The story of the German combat squadrons in the First World War has been little known. These units, forerunner of bombers, attacked the enemy far in the hinterland and disturbed the logistics of the enemy's fighting forces. Pioneer in the bombing was the French Air Force, the Aviation Militaire introduced in the fall of 1914 bomb squadrons. In November 1914, was drawn up a forerunner of the German bombing squadron. Until the end of 1915 two full squadrons were collected. By the year 1916 the number of combat squadrons grew up to seven. In the regimental histories the fighter or bomber squadrons are rarely mentioned. To snatch this squadron of oblivion, this book is written with 140 largely contemporary pictures and personal memories of the KaSta Staffel 23.
