No submarine development was more important for the navies of the world: The most advanced German submarine, the Type XXI, influenced the submarine construction for decades. Few of these boats have survived, and none has such a remarkable history as U 2540: It was launched just before end of war, sunk by its crew in May 1945, then was lifted after twelve years. It was repaired by the German Navy and set in service. It was discharged in 1982. Today it is a museum-boat in the Technik Museum at Bremerhaven. This book describes the legendary submarine type in detail and provides an insight into technical details, tells facts and gives background information. A treasure trove of marine fans. Over 300 b/w photos, some of today's color photographs, drawings, and an appendix (starting with page 354) complete the work.
