A scene of the First World War is the mountain front between Austria and Italy. This war, which claimed many lives, also left his mark in the mountains. For the research on this book, the author Hans-Joachim Loewer and the photographer Udo Bernhart climbed up to the old cannons, trudged through mine tunnel and discovered weapons and body parts that are thawed from glaciers. A total of 24 theaters of war along the 634 km long mountain front between Sesto, the Marmolada, Monte Pasubio and the Ortler are described. Historical photographs and pictures from today face the past with the present.
